Its hard to believe that we are already into the second month of 2010. What is even more hard to believe is that Valentines Day has already came and went. Had a great day with the family and below is a few pictures I took of my youngest son a few weeks ago. My gift from my loving husband was several things and a few more to come. What did I get you ask... Well that is for another post. So much to show and tell but waiting for all the products have arrived and then I will blog about it. Which I promise to do more of.

Can not hardly believe that we are already done with 2009. How fast the year had came and went and how many memories that I was able to capture in that time. Every year we say we are going to start something new, get rid of old habits, or just try to improve our selves. Some people stick to their new year resolution where as some just give (me included) up after a day or even a hour of there set goal.

This year I have decided to work on my business. My marketing style has been all over the place. Deciding to change things up, focus more on what I love to do and enjoy my time with friends, family and my love of photography. I have been wanting for a while to change my website but have been putting it off. Its on my bucket list (which I am starting this year) of many new things I want to try, do and will make sure is done. Right now my website is offline. Its really not but my domain name is at the moment. I have decided to move to a new site and there for till its done its pulled off line. Registration has begun for the 2010 International Charity Model Search to select North America's Cutest Family and to raise funds for the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation ( NILMDTS.org). Last year's competition featured 2,000 model's images and raised $164,775 for the NILMDTS organization.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS), is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization committed to assisting parents and families going through the difficult time when they experience an early infant loss. NILMDTS connects families with volunteer photographers and provides them with a reproducible CD of the images of their baby at no cost to the family. For further information on NILMDTS, visit their website at www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org.

Participating photographers submit portraits for local families for online voting and finalists are determined by online votes. Each vote cost $1, and all proceeds from votes benefit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep NILMDTS.org.

The grand prize international winner will be determined from the 52 city finalist. Many exciting prizes will be awarded, and the grand prize winner receives a new car. The winners will be selected from the finalist gallery by photography and modeling industry experts. Our family reunion was Labor Day weekend here are some pictures I took on my last day there. These were taken right behind my grandmas apartment. She lives in a retirement home and we came in the back way instead of parking in the front and walking through the center to get to her little apartment. When we pulled up my mind started rolling. There is a show on CBS called Gary Unmarried. If you haven't seen it is funny and this year it will be it second session. In Garys house above the mantel he has a picture of a red 1950 car. The photographer only captured the head lights and the side of the car. Ever since I saw that picture I have wanted to try to see if I could replicate it. I am not much of a car person could not even tell you how to change a tire.

Yesterday I was sitting in my room watching some videos on another photographers blog and he kept posting photo challenges, 15 minutes photo sessions with one lens. He was using the 50mm f/1.8. Getting inspired as I was watching video after video decided to get out of the house for a few. I knew a few places that were some good spots and have never had the time to really get out and see if I could get creative. While I was driving where I wanted to go I saw this 1960s Impala sitting all abandoned, rusted and calling for me. So I set out with my camera and my 50mm f/1.8 and went to see what I could capture. Here are a few images. More are posted on my facebook,myspace, and flicker. I will post the whole series on my site soon.

Back to school..

Trout Fishing

A few weeks ago we went trout fishing at our favorite place Roaring River State Park in Cassville MO. Our family has been going there for many years and will continue to go. Each year I tell myself I am going to explore more and take more pictures this year I took pictures all of one day but it was worth it and captured so much in that short time. We fished all the next day and caught many fish which was our dinner. If you ever get the chance you need to try grilled fish with Lemon Pepper Marinade its is very VERY good! Windows 7 and more

It seems to be a while since I have had a chance to post any new pictures on here. For that I am deeply sorry but it seems since March I have been none stop busy. Just like my chineese horoscope 2009 has turned out so far to be a really good year for me.

Did you know there is a new windows program? Yep Windows 7 its free for now which means its still beta but so far it rocks. Its a little bit of Win XP mixed with a little Mac and less Vista which I like. So far its running smooth it runs Lightroom 2.3 (which I am now using and learning), and Photoshop CS3.

They have these gadgets where you can have them on your desktop which is where I am typing this post as we speak. Now I wont forget to keep blog updates since clearly its on my desk top. I like the post it notes no more pieces of paper all over my desk for me to lose.

It took me 9 hrs to install the program only because I have a lot of programs I use for my editing where as it only took my husband 5 hrs go figure. So far its pretty solid program, love the smoothness of the design the themes are really cool. OH forgot to tell you that. Windows has themes and it changes its picture every so many minutes or so you can go online and get other themes. Right now my theme is Scottland and its beautiful.

Well I am off to clean the house and enjoy the weekend. If you are a mom, soon to be mom Happy Mothers Day or have a mom take the time to wish them all a Happy Mothers Day as well.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Today is my birthday! I turn the big 32, its hard to believe its been 13 yrs since high school, I am a mom to a teenager and I am barely into my 30's. The twenties were great but loving the 30's as well! Don't know how happy I will be when I hit 40 but for now I am happy and life has treated me good!

Below is a picture of a photo purse that I am getting for my birthday. My husband said I could get either the purse or some clothes and weight heavy on the clothes idea. Me being a women went for the new purse ;) For a year now I have had the web site saved the image planned and knew exactly what bag to get! So come tomorrow I am ordering this baby! It takes 2-3wks to receive it so hopefully it will come sooner!

One of Logan's favorite things to do is go for walks at the duck pond. Course I don't mind because I find something new to photograph while I am there. Decided to use my 50mm f/1.8 lens that I hardly use to see if I was going to like using a fixed lens for portraits. Have to say it was not that bad and in the end got some really nice pictures. Most of us usually get a lot of our creative ideas in the wee hours of the night. That is usually the case for me. Over the past 6 months I have decided to try my hand at designing my own logos. It was partly due to the fact I could not afford to pay somebody to make one. So instead I set out to try to replicate a design that I usually liked. Or if I was bored and was stuck creatively on editing photos I would resort to making a new logo for my myspace, or web site ( which sometimes is often). Thought I would share a few that I have done recently. As you can tell by the list I do a few logos for friends as well.

Yesterday was such a busy day for me. Both boys had a birthday party at the same time and same place (thankfully). Hannah had a soccer game and I had a family session. From the moment we got up in the morning it was go go go none stop till around 6pm. Thankfully it was a nice day would of been better had we not had the usual Oklahoma wind. But over all it was rather pleasant. When it comes to my sessions I always edit them in the order they were taken. But I knew while taking pictures that this family portraits would be a exception to the rule. I have yet to show you another cute boy named James. Whom is just adorable and was sporting a rather cute brown hate. I will post those hopefully this week.

Speaking of posting sorry I am behind. Ryan broke his collar bone on Monday and there for I am behind on all things photography related. He goes back to school this week even though I am still a tad nervous about it. Now on to what we are here for sneak peak of Dallas and his very beautiful parents.

Dallas is only 3 wks old and was very very good during our session. He slept the whole time and towards the end I thought he was going to wake up a little but quickly went right back to sleep. Hope you enjoy the sneak peaks will have more to come of this session as time progresses!

Snow covered tulips

We have gotten some snow today even though at one point I was sure it was not going to happen. Have been looking out the window watching the snow come down and thinking about going outside to take pictures. It was a back and forth conversation with myself so finally decided to do it. Wow its not cold outside at all! Course I do have a big parka that kept me nice and warm. The only flowers I seen that survived the cold was the tulips so I went out and took some pictures of them. There are four things I love about spring. One: Flowers, Two: Bees/Dragonflies Three: Warm weather, & last but least Four: MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY!!! So far I am LOVING my new studio lights best purchase of the year so far. Over the weekend I noticed that the tulips that come up outside my studio door had finally bloomed. So today being that I was a tad bored and was in no mood to work on editing decided to take some macro shots with my strobes. Here are a few shots that I have done so far.

My studio lights arrived the other day simply love them. So happy that I got the Photogenic versus the Alien Bees for those who don't know what I am talking about its okay! It has taken me most of the weekend to play around with them and get my room set up the way I like it. I found out my desk needs to go there is not enough space. I am sure David will be happy to have me back in the dinning room. :)

Here are a few pictures I took of Logan over the weekend. I have had to bribe my family to pose for me. Normally on a good day all I have to do is whip out the camera and smile. Guess they were tried of that slick move of mine! Here are pictures of Logan and his cute self. I hope to have some new ones of the other kids. Studio

I just ordered my studio lights and stand. Today has been a pretty good day for me for now I can go one more step in my photography career. When you don't have a studio weather and location can really limit you. Now I can do sessions during the day while everybody is at school and work. Will be here at the end of the week so I will have some fun testing them out. Here is a picture of my lights for those who are photographers they are the Photogenic Lights. Was going to go with Alien Bees but decided to do these after going to the Sandy Puc seminar. Which if you have not signed up and she is coming your way you NEED to sign up. Even sick Logan is such a cutie! Poor guy is not at the top of his game and in this picture he was not a happy camper. A friend of mine Andrea is a photographer here in town and she was showing me her lights. I plan on buying my first set of studio lights and was unsure how it all works. Thank you so much for helping me it really did help a lot. I did not have my camera so she let me use hers ( we have the same one) to try out what its like to do studio pictures. Here are some pictures of the end result. Now I am so excited that I can't wait to get my studio up and going. Its all starting to feel real to me which is really nice!

Amazing Song

Saturday night David and I sat down and watched several movies in a row. He started one that I had never heard and swore I would like it. The movie was titled Strange Days and was filmed in 1995. The movie was set in the year 2000 and how they thought the world would be. Oddly how the economy is society may get out of control just as they portrayed in the movie. Here is the video of the song played at the end of the movie when the credits role. I am a techno fan already but I love this song. I looked on Amazon for the soundtrack, LOL you can buy it for $2.00!

The seminar was amazing and I learned so much! We went over by a hour but it was okay and well worth it to say the least. Through out the whole seminar there were so many things I could not wait to try out with my own studio. Starting out in this business can be very stressful and daunting since most of the equipment we need is very expensive. With Sandy she lets you know its okay if you have to make do with what you have just gather little things along the way and before you know it your business is taking off.

She teaches you how to market your business, target the right clients, keep the faithful clients and how to keep going during down time seasons. What not to say and what to say to get kids to do what you want and to get the shot that you are after. Bribery is the #1 key.. And the number one key is CANDY! You can't go wrong with candy for every child can not live with out it. Change up your techniques and keep them going pretty fast so that way the child ore children wont have time to think of any thing else.

Another technique she shares is how the Chicken is a photographers friend! Why is that you say well because it scares the child and also stops them dead in their tracks so there fore they will listen to you and also you get the shot that you want. Its a ONE time shot so make sure you are behind your camera when you spring the chicken. When you are going to be using mom to get a childs attention or mom is going to talk make sure she is behind you or beside you so that way the child is looking up and you get a great angle and of course the shot you need. Once its over thats it you wont get it back so make sure to be prepaired.

Never say NO. This rule applies to everybody including moms. Kids hear the word no all the time and there for they result that with no fun and you want your studio to be fun along with your session so No is not a option. Another way to get a childs attention is the treat box have one not just for small children but one for teens as well ( filled with more stuff like chocolate and stuff) also have cheap toys on hand for those who can not have candy. Dum Dums and Smartees are a safe bet as well.

Say funny phrases they envoke smiles. Here are a few..

Okay everyone. Look right here and say "Mommy is a monkey!" and "Daddy wears diappers!"
Its not unusual for the kids to laugh and then look at their parent. As soon as they turn, say "Hey your mom isn't a monkey, is she?" This brings their eyes back to you for that shot.

Other phrases that work: "Say, 'Yes'" Yes has a way of making a nice soft expression, Also, instructing a child to say "yeehaww!" "ooh-la-la" and "hubba-hubba" always brings a smile. For older children, you can ask them to say "I'm gorgeous" or I'm so good looking!" The cute embarrassed smile is an adorable look.

Bugs Life

I took these several months back and just now getting to them. All I remember is that it was a pretty nice afternoon and I was out in the yard with the kids. Had my camera out scowering the yard to see what I could take pictures off. The top picture I have no clue what that insect is. It was there for some time and did not seem to care that I shoved my camera in its face. The second one is of a fly and I plan on trying my hand at a macro shot of a fly hopefully when it warms back up. Till then these will have to do.

My little sister will be a new mom in a few months and I could not be happier. My mom and I are hosting her baby shower and was asked to make the announcement. Here is one I came up with.

Quick sneak peak of the Welch family session. Had so much fun during this session I hated for it to end. In the top picture from left to right is Taylor, Parker, & Aubrey. A few hours before this session I had taken Parker's pictures while brother and sister were at school. When I am done with their album I will post more! New Camera Bag

KATA Digital Rucksack DR-467

Love my new backpack was happy to finally decided on one. Researched for 3 months before I actually purchased it. This bag comes in many colors and accents but I liked the solid black more so it would not show scuff marks and so forth. The yellow interior really helps you find things in the bag. I have the Canon 40D with a batter pack so as you know its a large camera when both are combined. I rearranged to have my camera sit in the bag with the 28-135mm lens.

If you are interested in this bag I have written a review on amazon.com. Glad I got it I love it and can't wait to use it on future hikes, or walks.

Front view of bag also holds 17inch laptop as well.

Top opening can be for anything or to carry extra camera body or lens.

Bottom holds camera and up to 4 lenses. I have the Canon 28-135mm, Sigma 70-200mm. Canon 50mm for now. I have rearranged the bag since taking this picture yesterday afternoon.

Christmas is right around the corner its hard to believe it has approached us so fast. Was going through my large folder of Photoshop templates and found this years Christmas cards. Hopefully I can get all my children to sit still and allow me to take a group shot of them. But I don't see that happening. Here are a few samples that I am offering this season. The one asking for only his front teeth is perfect for my son whom was my photo sample for the pictures. He recently lost one of his front tooth.

I went to see how much this really nice antique chest was (80.00), since it was out of my price range I checked out what else they had. I found this cute bear that I just had to have and then shortly after found a duck and Raggedy Ann and Andy!

Just a quick post of a image I think everyone will find rather funny. Sunday afternoon I had a photo session and we were taking pictures in this alley way. Around the corner from where were were taking pictures the kids had came across a trophy that they could not stop looking at. After we walked over to view it I noticed the bra hanging up holding two plant feeder jugs..lol I told the girls I have to get a picture of this. This picture is posted on my myspace page and has gotten quite a bit of attention. Many many jokes seem to keep coming to mind since it is rather funny. Will post more pictures at a later date.

I was watching Ellen this weekend (catching up on recordings) and she had Leo DiCaprio on her show. They were showing a video that he had made along with many other celebs about voting. This is really important for us to vote this election. I can not seem to say that enough these days. I too was one that said oh my vote doesn't matter... specially in Oklahoma. I am a Democrat and Oklahoma is a Republican state so voting never even made a difference in past elections. But this year I think America has really spoken how they really believe and feel our country should be ran.

This morning our dear family friend and most loved pet was hit by a car today. My husband went to leave for work this morning and saw Sam laying out in the street. The only thing we can guess is that he was coming home to greet us and to eat his morning breakfast. To me the hardest thing I had to do was tell my children that one of our dearest friends will no longer be with us.

Logan called him Ham even tho many many times of correcting him, it was always Ham. Where's Ham, Come on Ham, Uh O Ham got in. I don't think we will ever find a more loving, caring cat, nor will we want to. We will miss you dear friend and thank you for coming into our lives so briefly as you have.

Rain Drops

Here are some pictures I took last week. The bottom two were from a morning walk at the Duck Pond with Logan. The top one was taken Saturday after Hannah's soccer game. We were half way through our 9 am soccer game when the rain finally arrived. We lost the game sad to say but the day was not a total loss.... well for me it wasn't :) We have two porches on our house so I grabbed my mono pod, a chair, and my camera and went out to get some rain drop pictures. Why who knows but for a while now I am have been obsessed with trying to perfect the perfect rain drop picture. These are great but to my standards I am getting a tad closer but could do much much better!

A few weeks ago my camera had some issues which meant it had to be sent back to Canon. It came back the other day and so I wanted to test it out. It was raining outside so going outside was not a option for me. Instead I decided my 2 yr old would be the perfect test subject. A while back had got a collection of stocking hats that I was saving for winter. Found one that I really liked and put it on Logan so it would add some color to the image. For the like of me I could not get him to concentrate and listen to me so I finally had to bribe him with a big giant lolly pop. This got his attention and created some wonderful images. Hope you like them.

A few weeks back Kate's mom and aunt had got together with me and we had a very fun session. The pictures of the twins several post down are her cousins. Busy Day

Today has turned out to be a very busy day for a Monday. Course I am not surprised since its the first day of the week and everybody is back to work and school. I normally take Monday off when it comes to my photography. But today I am unable to escape the urge to jump into photoshop and start editing. Course my growing pile of stack of important papers on my desk tell me that there will be no fun or no playing in photoshop today. So I give you just one picture as its so cute and could not resist.

Last night I was frantically looking for a set of images that I needed for a client. Should say that I did find them took me a while and a few stressed complaint sessions to my husband. He is such a good listener let me tell you! For those who are just curious to know they were in a folder named after something else. Totally forgot that I combined two sessions into one folder to save me time, and room. Why my logic of that who knows it was many many months ago but its all good now that I have found them. Any ways last night I was going through some old albums and found our vacation pictures to Roaring River in MO. My son is just a cutie and loves to pose. But while checking them out I was playing with the settings and managed to find a good picture of him and I looking cool in our sun glasses.

Day of Hope

I am late posting these but some times better late then never! Two churches in town came together and created a charity called Day of Hope. What they did is give out FREE clothing, medical screening, hair cuts, groceries, lunch, prayer, diapers, and much much more. I was blessed to spend the day with a lot of loving, caring and amazing people. Below is just a few pictures that I was lucky to capture. Hopefully once I get my web site revamped you will be able to see all the pictures. Both Churches have copies of the pictures and absolutely LOVED what I was able to capture for them.

About a month or so ago I got a new macro lens and was sitting out side finding things to try it out on. Across the street comes this grey cat that was hunting for food. The kids and I thought it would be fun to call it over to visit with the cat and for me to get a few pet shots. Well the cat never left and has been here since. We call him Sam but Logan calls him Ham..lol

On the first day of school my son Ryan decides to slide off the front of a car hood and bust his head wide open. Four hours in the ER, a CT Scan, 6 staples and a 2,000.00 hospital bill! Thankfully and the blessing of God his head has healed up just fine. We kept him out of school for the next two days and while we were trying to find things to pass the time away we went out side to play around in the yard. Sam had come to visit and while being well the lazy cat he is had caught a Locust as it was flying to another tree. Never in my life had I ever seen a cat eat this type of bug, but I am hear to show you its true. Here is a picture of Sam eating a light snack.
